Low Frequency Noise (LFN) issues are often reported in local and national press. The most recent hum we’ve heard of is in Immingham on the Humber estuary. This is one of several cases where no source of the sound can be found. Those who hear it are suffering annoyance and disturbed sleep. In these cases people often turn to local councillors, MPs or the press, when the source of the sound remains unresolved. Our recently published briefing note, Low Frequency Noise Annoyance, aims to help increase public understanding of low frequency noise, sets out processes for investigation and routes to finding mechanisms for coping with it where no source can be identified.
