Abstract

To evaluate the rapid onset of an impulsive sound using BS 4142 Annex E, it is essential to select an appropriate logging period for the sound pressure level time series. This choice significantly affects the ability to adequately characterise both the level difference between the start and end of the impulse, and the average onset rate. This investigation examined the limitations of this analysis by using real audio recordings of impulsive sounds alongside artificial tone bursts.  The results have been compared to what is known about the capability of the human auditory system to resolve sounds with rapid onsets.

We will be heading out for a sociable drink and chat afterwards
